Maybe starving for fuel? My H was doing something similar. Would idle and pull itself fine for days, but would sputter and lose power when you go up an incline or try to engage PTO. Took carb off, took it apart and cleaned it, blew out fuel line, and cleaned sediment bowl and it"s running well now. I"ve mowed with it several times since. I think a coil going bad could cause the same symptoms? Just a couple thoughts, good luck!
