There are 2 options on filters; long or short. Measure the height of the filter housing before going to the store. Get the engine thoroughly warmed up before draining the oil. There is a small 1/4" pipe plug on the bottom of the filter housing; use a small container (1# coffee can), remove the plug, just slightly loosen the filter housing so some air can get in and the oily mess will be limited. As mentioned, be sure to get all the old gasket out of the housing groove.
