Nice looking 966, tick is quite likely something simple like a valve lifter or rocker arm. Look at the rocker arms. Back when these were new, 966 and 1066 had same rocker arms. 1066s were breaking them, there was a recall and IH upgraded them. I remember the day the dealer changed my 1066, the new rocker arm assembly was substancially heavier than the old. Back then it was blamed on the turbo, by now fatigue could be doing same to n/a engines. Just a thought, I'm no engine expert.
