I HAVE A 1947 FARMALL CUB WITH A MAGNETO. WHILE USING THE TRACTOR, IT DIED ON ME. JUST AS IF SOMEONE HAD TURNED OFF THE SWITCH. AFTER EXPLORING THE POINTS BECAUSE OF WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DEMINISHED SPARK. (STILL HAD SOME SPARK) MOTOR OIL POURED OUT OF THE POINTS COMPARTMENT OF THE MAGNETO. AFTER LOOKING FOR THE CAUSE, MY MECHANIC DETERMINED THE OIL SEAL THAT SEPERATES THE GOVERNOR FROM THE MAGNETO WAS FAULTY. THE OIL SEAL WAS REPAIRED AND AFTER THE MAGNETO WAS REPLACED ON THE TRACTOR, IF STILL FAILS TO START. MY QUESTION IS THIS, IS THERE SOMETHING IN THE MAGNETO THAT WOULD BE DAMAGED BY THE OIL. THE MECHANIC IS TELLING ME FAILURE OF THE TRACTOR TO START IS BECAUSE THE SPARK APPEARS TO NOT JUMP THE POINTS AND SPARK PLUGS. THE MAGNETO IS JUST ABOUT A YEAR OLD. (IT WAS REPLACED BECAUSE OF A BROKEN GEAR). IS THERE SOMETHING GOING ON IN THE MAGNETO THAT WOULD GIVE ME SOME SPARK BUT NOT A LARGE ENOUGH SPARK TO FIRE THE IGNATION SYSTEM.
