Well lets get it operating!! Try the following, it leaves the VR out all together. With tractor off, and the Armature (big) lead to the gen disconnected from the VR, ground the field terminal directly to the gen frame. Start the engine and then touch the generator's Armature wire to the Bat terminal of the VR. This may requre a longer wire if the terminals are on different sides. It should spark (20 amp spark or so) and begin charging. If it does, the VR is bad, or for a pos ground. Let us know and we will go from there. Jim
