bunghammer: Older as in what year? Also IH what, gas engines or diesel engines? As I recall low ash was recommended for 06, 56 and 66 diesels, however I was not buying gassers in that era, thus I have no idea what was recommended for those. Most folks with those diesels changed to 15W-40 when it came about. I don't see ash mentioned on modern oils, guess it's all low ash today. By the way I did burn the same low ash oil in my car, 4 trucks, 5 gas tractors and 4 diesel tractors, even my 4 cycle lawn mower. My engines lasted longer than average between rebuilds. Low ash must have had some benefit.
