Swede, In order: 1. You can use whatever works on the rust. Wire brush works okay on the cast housings. Heavier rust may require a wire wheel on a die grinder or portable drill. On the sheet metal it's okay for the first layer but then go to a sander gradually increasing the number of the grit. Finish sanding should be at least 200-250 grit. 2.Rust-o-leum can be used as a primer. Most important is that it not interfere adversely with the finish coat of paint you plan on using. Sometimes the dryer chemicals in primers/paint are not compatible with finish paint products. 3.Never used a sponge for tractor painting. I prefer spraying to get it into all the nooks and crannys. 4.Remember it is better to spend more time in the prep phase that it is the finish phase. The better you have the metal preped/primed, the better your finished product will look. FB

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
