Primary distinctions between the two that are hard to change out are the International (what I think you're calling the industrial model) had a rectangular front axle tube, set up on edge like a diamond intead of square to the ground, and a foot-feed in addition to the hand throttle lever. Axle tubes on the Farmall A were round, and Farmalls didn't have the foot-feed.
Decals could have been changed to anything over the years. A little more reliable cosmetic clue, but still not dead-on, is that the wing emblem on the grille said either Farmall or International, but those aren't hard to change out, either.
As far as a serial number, there will be one (without the FAA or IAA prefixes) on the motor, stamped into a flat-machined spot at the top edge of the crankcase, just below the hole for the #1 plug on the head. It may be covered in gunk and a little hard to see around the rod to the governor, but it's there. That will tell you only the year the motor was made. In the absence of a chassis serial number, which would ordinarily match as far as the number but not for prefixes, you could look up the year of the motor and then compare it with the dates of the casting codes on the different chassis parts and come to a reasonable assumption about whether it could be the original motor. But the serial number on the motor won't tell you whether it was built as an I or an F. The axle tube and foot feed would be more reliable indicators of that.
