The number on the side of the trans if cast into the casing is the casting number. The code explained before does tell you the year of the casting but may not tell you the year of assembly. You will need the unit serial number from the name plate which I believe is on the seat support. If not or if missing, look behind the distributor almost behind the throtle rod to see a stamped in number that is in the engin block. If the engin is original, the stamped in number should match the unit serial number.
