Hi Steve, never worked on 424 but worked on 434. Does the hood on 424 tip forward for servicing by removing some bolts by the dash and one bolt in the front behind the grill? If it does there was one ground wire for the headlights that was connected to the stud behind the grill that bolted into the front bolster casting. Often the lug got broken on this wire and the head lights would not work.
