YOURE BOTH WRONG.....but hes a bit more right then you are, read on:
First of all (where youre wrong), To run the "Motor Test" you apply voltage TO THE ARMATURE TERMINAL AND CASE GROUND NOTTTTTTTTTTT THE FIELD TERMINAL.
HERES THE CORRECT COMPLETE MOTOR TEST AND IFFFFFFF IT PASSES BOTH PORTIONS IT WILL MOSTY LIKELY CHARGE
1) First jump the FLD post to case ground,,,,,Apply battery voltage to the ARM terminal and case ground, IF IT SPINS NICE N SMOOTH N EVEN AND THE ARMATURE ISNT DRAGGING THE FIELD POLES the Armature and Brushes and Bushings are likely okay........
2) With it running unground the FLD post and it should speed up some,,,,,IF IT SPEEDS UP SOME THE FIELD WINDINGS ARE LIKELY OKAY
