I just acquired a pretty nice Super M serial 26260 J (what's the J for?), which makes it a '53. I bought an operators manual off eBay, a real honest to God IH one no less which has promptly confused the heck out of me as far as the controls go...
To activate the starter you step on a little lever which then pushes button that energies the starter. Pretty much what I've seen on most regular Ms, but in my operators manual it shows the use of a pull rod, not the foot operated setup. It also shows the choke lever and the belt pulley lever all in the same bracket as the starter, which is not how mine is setup. The choke is above the starter button and I think the belt pulley lever (not installed at the moment) is on the right, not on the left.
It also has the later style spring/friction throttle, not the toothed one and it has the sealed beam style lamps.
I does have a belly pump but it's nothing more then a reservoir as it's had a live pump installed.
Also kind of interesting, the PTO lever is either some sort of aftermarket or homemade setup. Instead of the rod that you pull up you have a lever under the seat with a nob and all that pulls the rod up. It's pretty slick, you don't have to hunt for it at all, it's right there, very easy access.
I know the Super M was really a transition model, just a stepping stone to the 400, was there just a lot of variation with in the model?

EDIT: I should also note that the CNH online parts catalog doesn't show controls like my SM, they show the ones like I fine in my operators manual.
