"Also, I have a cheap digital caliper that I refuse to use for accurate specs. Three measurements, three answers."
Amen and BTDT to that. A measurement that can't be repeated isn't terribly useful. I keep a cheap plastic dial caliper on the bench for sizing things like bolts or holes up quickly. Any measurement that matters, though, the good stuff is in the toolchest. I've got good mics to cover up to three inches for shafts. Those set me back enough that I haven't been able to justify/afford an inside mic, and so am still relying on verifying the reading from the "good" dial caliper by mic-ing a hole gauge. One of these days . . .
As for the seals, the last I knew, CaseIHNHFord still stocks them, though perhaps with a new number. Nothing exotic about them that I know of. If the local NAPA guy couldn't cross to CR and I needed it, I guess I'd have to spring for the extra and get it from the local dealer. That failing, a call to Bermuda Ken might be in order here.
