Gordo, on the 6 volt coils ITS EASY. You go about anywhere and ask for a garden variety generic run of the mill 6 volt coil. THOSE ARENT THE HARD OR CONFUSING ONES. Its those 12"s and their use (with or without ballast,,,,,,, internally ballasted etc ect etc ,,,,,,,,,) that gets confusing to soooooooo many folks as evidenced by alllllllllll those posts below.........
If I had one laying in the shop and I had no idea nor was it labled as 6 or 12,,,,,,all you gotta do is stick an ohm meter on its lil + and - terminals,,,,,,,,if its around 1.2 to 2 ohms its a 6 volt but if its more like 2.5 to 3.5 its a 12. That way the points dont have to switch much over 4 amps they were designed to handle so they dont burn up prematurely. The points are the weak link and the reason we have to have the right coil and/or ballast or combination so they dont burn up too fast......
