I would be with El Toro on this...use NPT to JIC male, put JIC female fittings on both end of the hose. This way you never have to fight with the hose or rotate the entire hose (if one had an NPT male crimp fitting)
Often if you can layout the hose path with something like a garden hose or a scrap piece of wire you can arrive at a length. Take this to the hydraulics shop with you.
If you use the "reusable" fittings as El Toro has pictured I find a couple drops of cheap rear axle lube (EP oil) to be the best assembly lube.
