Two easy to check high probability issues. The heat related poor performance is possibly a coil. see if it is too hot to touch when it begins to be getting rough. A degrading condenser will also play that game. If the coil is hot, change the coil with one that is good. If it is cool change the condenser. Another possible issue is a worn distributor bushing. If the shaft has any side to side play in it it needs to be rebushed. Seting the points may help, but will not fix that issue. JimN
