I wouldn't be concerned about constantly running it in DD (higher speed side of TA unit), if you're up on your oil maintenance. It's been sometime since I've worked on a 3288, but as I recall it has a solenoid to move the TA shift valve. You need to determine how you can keep it shifted in DD, by either running a hot wire to the solenoid from the battery or simply disconnecting a wire from the solenoid. It shouldn't be too hard to determine. The newer TA units have a different 1-way mech. which they call the mechanical diode. I believe it has a 3 year warranty on it. I'm not overly impressed with them being any better than the older style, but it may be at least 50/50 and the warranty may be good for your pocket. The newer unit has the problem of not letting the 1-way mech. release, and can cause more damage if it continues to run. It may kill the engine and/or be extra noisy in operation. Many farmers have replaced own TA's, but the warranty may not apply unless a CASE-IH shop does the work. You should check on this.
