A stuck float in the carb will prevent filling of the bowl. The engine will run for a while then die like it had no fuel. Tapping the side of the carb might free it, but pulling the bottom off of the carb will also tell the story. Assuming it has fuel in the bowl. Does it suck hard on the palm of your hand (over the air intake on the carb air horn) when cranking? If not it could be cam timing. Another reality is a leak in the intake manifold. (they usually don't run then stop though) JimN
