Thanks for the reply Tractor Vet. I will continue to set the exhaust valve clearance at .027. The explanation of how to do it clears up confusion for me from doing it last time. Not being someone with a lot of experience mechanically I was expecting two surfaces that were flat like a set of points to put the feeler gauge between. Thankfully I did get the rocker arms reground like you said last year so I probably got them pretty close 99 hours ago but now I will know what I am doing. By the way you were right on with what happened to my then 5 cylinder 656. Burnt exhaust valve - looked like someone torched the under side of it. That and a worn cam lobe and a cracked valve guide. $2900.00 machine work and $1100.00 for all the other things that needed replaced and I got a nice running tractor like you said. I didn't get to turn it into a 291 - no one with enough knowledge and a much higher machine shop cost made me satisfied with the 263. Much thanks again, Scott
