We must've gotten about a foot here since Friday morning.
To listen to the news and weather reports all day Thursday and into early Friday, you would've thought the world was going to end!!! Watched the school closings pile up on the TV early Friday, looked out the window... nothing!
When I was a kid, a mere 25 years ago, weather like we're having would've been business as usual. We would've went to school, put in a full day, and gotten home on time. Weather people used to call this a "flurry." There was no closing school because some meteorologist said a storm was coming... and we used to get "storms" like this 2 or 3 times a month.
They even gave us the option to leave work early Friday afternoon. First time in 4-1/2 years, and we've had way worse weather, heavier snowfalls.
Are people just getting wimpy and/or lazy?
Maybe it's just everyone wanting to start Christmas vacation a little early, and the "storm" gave them a good excuse...

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
