If it was frozen water in the transmission or rear end, the tractor would stall when you put it in gear and let out the clutch... I would suspect that the description of the problem in that case to be "tractor dies when I let out the clutch," not "no go in any gear."
My nose is telling me that this has something to do with the "took me about an hour to get the TA to warm up and to get it working."
The TA doesn't need to "warm up" in any temperature. It either works, or it's broken.
What I'd like to hear is how the TA was behaving when it was "cold." My suspicion is that it was on its way out, and picked now to completely crap the bed.
