I fixed a friend's Super H a few years back that had this problem. The problem with his was that the internal spline teeth on the 4th/5th sliding gear in the transmission were worn out. It was more than $200 just for the new gear. This wear happens because folks start out in 4th gear and then shift to 5th on the go, grinding the gears. Over time, and many shifts, this wears out the teeth on the 4th/5th sliding gear. It may be possible to replace this gear through the belt pulley housing opening after you pull the housing off. Not sure about that as I took the transmission top off on the one I did. Also, the clutch shaft has to come out and the input shaft/bearings/gear to the transmission has to come out the front of the transmission. That is done from under the tractor. In the case of my tractor, it ended up with a pretty complete overhaul of the transmission, including replacing all the bearings except for the rear bearing on the counter shaft. This was done because all the bearings had excessive play. The transmission lube system was all stopped up with sludge preventing proper flow of oil to the bearings. Another possible cause (I am told) for this problem is a worn out pilot bearing in the transmission. This is the bearing between the front and rear top shafts in the transmission. This I think can be replaced through the belt pulley housing hole without removing the top of the transmission, but all the stuff still has to come out of the front of the transmission. Short answer is fixing your problem is a fairly big job and will be expensive as well.

Today's Featured Article - When Push Comes to Shove - by Dave Patterson. When I was a “kid” (still am to a deree) about two I guess, my parents couldn’t find me one day. They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
