After reading this site, I put on new cables yesterday before buying a new battery. Difference was like night and day. That old battery spun the starter like it never spun before. Now I can wait on buying a battery.
I didn't believe cables would make that big a difference. My 2606 C263 gasser had 4 guage cables that appeared to be in good shape and not that old. Bought the biggest they had at autozone (2 guage for about 8 bucks apiece).
Like they said, your six volt needs bigger guage. If autozone had them or if I went to napa first, I'd probably bought the double ought.
Of course avoid what I did, when tightening the cable on the starter solonoid, it rotated over and touched the little terminal next to it at the top. When I hooked up the second battery cable, what a surprise when the starter engaged. Good thing I keep it out of gear as I was standing in front of the back wheel.
