Not sure if I could even bring myself to tear one up for parts. It would have to be in pretty bad shape or missing the rear half etc. But that is indeed a good idea. I'm led to believe there was plenty of iron painted red sold up here in Maine but I haven't stumbled across a parts tractor myself. I'd look further afield but it isn't easy gettin stuff hauled up here. Cost me $240 just to move mine 70 miles when I bought it. Now if I were set up with my own transport and could just head off across the country if I found one ....... but that would raise other issues along the lines of how comfy I find the couch for sleepin.
Another issue is that the tractor is an integral part of my management of the property. I can't really sit back waiting for a parts machine to cross my path.

If this steering change is going to run better than $1,300+ why don't you start looking for a complete 300/350U with PS to buy for parts from a private party. You might be surprised what you may find. Pay up to $1,500 and you will have a good inventory of used parts and sell what you don't need.
That's the way I would approach it.
Good Luck, Dell
