If it is adjusted properly, engine tuned, and the brakes are decent this is a test to see if it will hold. This is not the best way, but on a tractor not pulling a true load, it is better than nothing. I do this when adjusting my TA. In 1,2,3 gears it should pull thru the brakes at about 1/2 throttle (diesel). 4th should lug and 5th should stall out the engine. These are all with the handle BACK.
