Butch: I know of a couple of these sleeves breaking. I don't think it has to be a disaster if the sleeve breaks. My understanding is you always get a warning with mild knock that gets progressively worse. If you shut it down in time, it's only a matter of changing the sleeve.
With my 560, it was a case of a teenager blowing silage, 560 on the blower. It started knocking and he left it running and went for help. We know it ran 75 secondes before the crash. In the hands of a good operator, that is lots of time to shut down. The other one I know of was a 504, and the owner had time to shut down successfully.
You might ask the Vet about this, I'm sure he has seen a lot more of these than I've been expossed to.
