The number you have is a part number, and it doesn't cross to anything in my parts catalog for an A.
The casting date codes are in a month/day/year format. Numerics for the month and day and a letter for the year that can be found in the serial number tables at the left.
They will be on what looks like a slightly raised strip with round-head screws, which was about what it was -- strips with the date were screwed onto the master from which the mold for the casting was made.
Sides of the tranny, torque tube and motor are good places to look.
Most As (the very later ones were exceptions) the motor serial number was the same as the chassis, so that might be an angle to approach, assuning it has the original motor in it. That number will be found on a machined flat spot on the upper edge of the crankcase, probably hidden by gunk and/or the governor control rod, just below the #1 (forwardmost) spark plug.
