rrogers: The number you've quoted 6342 DH is the block part number. If you look just below number 1 plug there is a machined flat surface with stamped letters and numbers. You may have to scrape a bit to read them. Letters are the model and numbers the engine serial number. On a Farmall A that engine serial number will be very close to tractor serial number.
If casting date codes are close (within 6 months of each other) very likely you have an original tractor. Every major casting has a date code, about 1/2" high digits with what looks like a round head, blade type screw between each of day , month and year. Day and month will be numbers, year will be a letter. N is 44, O is 45, P is 46, you can go forward or backward from those, except T and U were both used in 50 and V was not used.
