As far as the steering column on the F14 -- I read somewhere that, when the F14 came out, there were still a lot of F12s on the dealer lots and that IH retrofitted/upgraded them to F14s.
Wherever it was I was reading about that didn't go into a lot of detail about what that retrofit included, as in whether they raised the steering column or not. Going by Guy Fay's Data Book, though, it sounds as if those tractors got new serial numbers. If your serial number is in the range 140000 to 142500 (factory changeover), or 155402 to 155902 (field changeover), it may be one of those that were upgraded
