Since this is diesel tractor, there's no ignition system to worry about, so it's REAL simple.
With the engine shut down, swap the battery connectionss, then POLARIZE the GENERATOR before startup.
What electricals does this tractor have... USA made Delco?
If so, momentarily jumper between the "BATT" and "ARM" terminals at the voltage regulator BEFORE startup.
("GEN" is an alternate name for the "ARM" terminal.)
IF the generator is another make an alternate procedure might be required. (IF it is a "B" system generator.)
NOTE... some voltage regulators use different metals for the upper and lower contacts, set up to work best with one polarity or the other, and operating the regulator with the reverse polarity MAY shorted contact life somewhat.
