There are several alternatives like Craigs etc. The one I like is Kijiji.
It is simple to use, no hassle and the ads last for like 60 days and then they email you and ask if you would like to relist it and all it takes is a click.
As far as eating bum money orders or cashiers checks.
I take the MO to the post office, cash it, then send the item.
The post office always checks the MO number and if it is good they give me my money. (I never had a bad one yet) But even if it is bad, I still have the item and will not send it unless I have converted payment into cash.
