Stage II SM had no reservoir in the belly pump area from the factory. Rather the belly pump area in the housing is simply empty space.
Sounds as if your SM's has been modified to add extra reservoir capacity by using an old belly reservoir. If so it would best be arranged so the remote 4-way valve ("christmas tree" valve) exhausts into the lower reservoir. The lower reservoir then is plumbed to flow back up into the main reservoir.
