Bob M can confirm this, but if memory serves, the standard location for the "christmas tree" valve on a Stage II Super M is that spot where the fill pipe would have been for the belly pump. The valve mounts on a special elbow that either screws into the fill pipe hole, or has a flange on it that allows it to be bolted to the tractor.
That's correct! On my Super M (late '53 Stage II) the "pipe nipple" that apparently connects the base of the Christmas tree valve to the torque tube is actually a piece of steel bar stock threaded at the upper end for 1" NPT male threads. It does NOT carry hydraulic fluid into the (empty) torque tube casting.
