I come to you today with a hypothetical question:
Which would you buy....a Farmall H or an International 706? Both are listed for $3800 obo.
The H is a 1947. It's got what looks like either a Farmhand or an original IH loader on it, with a plow and material bucket. It's Narrow-front, with rather nice looking tin, ~50% rubber, and chains to match. 6-volt. I've been told it starts and runs beautifully. It looks pretty well un messed with...everything appears near original-quality. I'd be tempted to do the Live-Hyd upgrade if I put a 3pt on it, though, which Ideally, I would. Other than that, I can't think of anything it needs.
The 706 is the 1965 variety, with the IH282 Inline-6 diesel. It's got a two-point FastHitch, darn nice tin, with only the occasional ding and dent. Rubber looks like it's ~50% as well. Engine was rebuilt a while back, and only has a few hours on the rebuild. Wide Front. The one issue is that it doesn't run currently. The owner thinks its a fuel issue. I haven't seen the tractor in person, so I can't know for sure. The tractor sat for a year plus with no fuel in it, and hasn't started since.
I'm looking for another tractor...partially as a project, partially because it would be useful. I'd like to paint my Super-C, and would like to have something to replace it while its in the shop. Either tractor would fit that bill. It would also be handy to have a loader around the house for moving snowbanks in the winter, moving logs/branches/debris/etc. The H fits that bill as it is, the 706 would need a loader. The 706, however, with a loader/blade and a blower on the back, would probably tempt me to get into snow removal during the winter, allowing for some potential income to at least offset running costs. The 706 already has a hitch, the H would need one. The H runs though.
I'm not really looking for someone to tell me which is a better tractor, or which is a worse deal. What I'm looking for is for opinions on, given the information above, which you would personally consider if size didnt matter.
Not that it makes a huge difference, but the H is local to me (I could drive it home, if motivated enough...it's maybe 20 miles). The 706 is further away (Truck/trailer would likely be necessary).
