I've had a few cracked F-20 blocks along with many on this forum. A crack behind the carb is pretty common on these old engines. I've also had cracks on the deck between the cylinders. My shop simply drilled a hole at the end of the crack in the divider and the head gasket sealed it up since it's a wet sleeve engine. I've had a couple blocks which were cracked in the water jacket all the way up through the deck (not between the cylinders). Those two blocks got scrapped. Pop the head like mentioned here and take a good look. You never know if the head has a few internal cracks as well. I personally have my machine shop check a cracked block/head and I let them weld. I hate tearing an engine apart twice. I'm sure others have done their own block repairs with good results and will share.
