Buster, I went through the same thing last year with my M. My problem was the center shim on the shift rails had fallen out and put the 2nd and 3rd gear shift rail in a bind.Definitly try Dale, Medfarm and Reds advise first! If you have to remove the deck be carefull because the shift forks and rails are attatched to the deck and you will need to try and lift it straight up as to not put the shift forks in a bind.
