Thanks noncompos. I'm just guessing it is a c-263. I can't match the block number and for all I know it might be a c-301. I'll search the online parts for the 301 and see what matches.
I've figured out that parts like the plugs, oil filters, carb, and dist. parts are pretty much the same for most of those 1960's tractors. Anyway I'm using a 263 oil filter and since most engines had an adaptor to go from the old cartridge in a can to the screw on type, they might all use the same filter anyway.
To get the needle valve for the carb I had to use the 656 ih tractor. Didn't know then that the engines were listed separately.

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
