Paul - Just remember to hook positive to positive, negative to negative, like the Red says. Applies both to connecting a battery charger and to jumping. Not recommended to jump 6 volts off of 12. But if you gotta, here's how (assume now you have a 6 volt positive ground tractor to be jumped): 1 - VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Make sure the two machines are NOT touching each other. And wear safety glasses. 2 - Hook one jumper cable to a good ground on the 12 volt machine, and to the battery cable connection on the 6 volt machine's starter switch. Don't hook to the battery! 3 - Take the other other jumper and hook one end to the 12 volt machine's battery positive terminal. Finally hook the other end of the jumper to the frame on the 6 volt machine (expect a spark when you do...) Immediately crank the 6 volt machine, then disconnect one of the jumpers at the 6 volt end the moment it starts. Be careful - never make the last connection at a battery! Otherwise the spark occurring when you complete the circuit can cause a battery to explode. It's unlikely, but the consequences are severe! (Been there...)

Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
