Interesting question. The Oring is a seal, it is square in section, (square "O" ring describes it) the depth of the groove is about 3/16" there is likely a old Seal in the groove unless you can be sure it is as deep as indicated. The old seals get hard as iron and solid. it takes a serious dental pic, and effort to get it out. The dome housing should fit down into the groove with the seal under it. They do not leak if clean, not scratched, and with a new ring. Replace the copper gasket washer on the bolt as well. JimN
