If you put gasohol in the tank it will slowly disolve the shellac and the float will sink. Gordon Rice sells new cork floats that have a coating that is resistant to alcohol. I think it is nothing more that a type of gas tank sealer. What ever you put on, just be sure you don't get a drip or blob that will hang up on the side of the bowl. Been there! Here is a little trick when resetting your float. There is a machined line or groove around the inside of the fuel bowl on the brass ensign type IH carbs, set float to that line and it will work perfect! I think it was put there for assembly and service people to use.
