"Back then" tires of that era (1940-1960) were 10X38. 11X38 was a factory option. Most were 10X38. 45 degree bars were unknown in those days.
Today's tires go by more elaborate sizings and nearly all have 45 degree bars. Your tire salesman should know how to compare today's tires with yesterday's tires; if he can't do that, go to a dealer that can be of more help.
Miller Tire in Ohio makes the old bar patterns, and are pricey, but sure look nice. I wish I had put them on my H.
