With the amount of water that is bypassed thru the bypass hose they have a hard time warming up. But as i have never really payed attention to it as to how warm they will get setting at half throttle for a half hour i can tell ya this a diesel will not warm up like a gasser and for them to make heat they need worked . I know that my old I H 4370 Eagle with a Cummins would come up to around 150 if you had her running 1500 with the shutters open but if ya closed the shutters she would come on up to 180 . My dodge cummins will not come up to operating temp just running above idle and i know that the stat in it works as i put a new one in as i thought that it ran a bit cold . So if your worried then put in a new stat and see what happens . My worry is that they don't overheat.
