My understanding of the original question was, are the levers working backwards, no they are not, you should raise implements and or hitch by moving lever forward. If you switch the hoses on the hitch cyl so hitch raises when you pull lever back, the one way check valve will not hold hitch up if it is equipped with the check valve.
