Picked up an 806 gasser recently, knowing full well it's limitations. It became quickly evident that the engine was not original--wrong valve cover, recently replaced oil pan, serial # not where it belonged. Figured it was a combine motor. For sure, the power seemed good. I could get her moving from a dead stop in 4H and not lug the engine much at all. The carby bits seem to be from an 806 (main jet and venturi)
Found the block # (379815R1) and from digging around here and the CaseIH ipl, it appears I have a C263, maybe from a 413 combine. I am a bit disappointed but also surprised as this engine is definitely stronger than my 560. This can probably be attributed to all the 806 parts used for the repower. One day, maybe, I'll pull the pan and see what exactly I have.
Since I don't plan on using it for anything big, I may actually have the better engine; the 291 would be even nicer. Only time will tell. At least everything else works on the tractor. Even the fuel gauge.
