I had the same problem with my 48 Cub. It would try to start, but would not stay running. It turned out to be after replacing numerous electrical componets, when we were putting the rotor back on after new points we found that you could spin it with your finger. The teeth on the rotor drive gear were ate off smooth. I have a mag on mine so NAPA did not have the little plastic gear that you get as a replacement and I had to get it at my Case/IH dealer. $32.50 Ouch. But that got me going again.
