Farmall MD Warmup

I just finished completely restoring a 1949 Farmall MD. It started up nicely and I got it to run well in the diesel mode after getting all the air purged out of the filters and injectors.
The question I have is that since I haven't previously owned any MD's I don't know how they should run on startup. Mine seems to smoke and miss once in a while until it gets warmed up. Once it is warm, it runs really nice without any smoke. I had the injector pump and injectors rebuilt, but I am not sure if the timing is correct or if I need to do more air bleeding.
I would appreciate any input. Roger
