I always come here when I run into problems with my dependable H, so I though I would share this. Over the last 2 or 3 years, the old H has been harder and harder to get started. I just thought it was cheap replacement distributor caps and rotor buttons. Well, I charged up the battery this year, tried to start it, 2 or 3 cranks, then nothing. Tried to jump it, same thing. Went and bought a new battery, which by the way have almost doubled. Same thing. Charged the battery overnight, ditto. Exchanged the battery. 4 or 5 cranks, then nothing. I came across an article on switching over to 12 volt, and it made the comment that if every part of the system was working properly, you don"t need to go to 12 volt. It had a common sense list of items to check. Changed out the positive cable to a shorter, 2 gauge cable and that solved everything. I can't believe it. I already had it in the garage, didn"t even have to buy it. All that trouble and the answer was 20 ft away....
