I agree with all the others, but one other thought crossed my mind: Is this by chance a 656 Hydro (Hydrostatic drive) tractor? If so, the Hydro unit will whine sometimes even sitting still while the engine is running, and there will be a pronunced whining when the tractor is moving with or withut a load on it. My grandad bought new one of the first 1026 Hydros sold in this area, and the neighbors always claimed you could here it all over the neighborhood, especially when we were plowing. We"ve had several others since, and still have a gas 656 Hydro, and they all had that whine, especially when moving. My Cub Cadet 1250 (almost identical drive type of system) still whines whenever it"s in motion. It"s just a peculiarity of the beast. Just a thought.
