I just aquired a '48 Cub myself and, I had the same problem trying to get it to start. First I pulled each wire from the distributer cap, cleaned off the corrosion and made sure they all were seated tightly (make sure you don't cross the wires, the firing order is on the left side of the block next to the hydraulic pump). After getting spark on all four plugs, it still would not start (except for a cloud of white smoke occasionally). I then took off the carbureator and cleaned it. No change. What it turned out to be was rust in the gas tank. It initially looked clean but, behind the fill cap is a baffle plate that is great for catching rust. When I cleaned out the inlet valve to the sediment bowl under the gas tank, the tractor turned over 3 times and started. The only problem is the rust keeps plugging up the gas line and and valve on the sediment bowl. I put on a 3/8" ball valve, some gas hose and a disposable gas filter to make a temporary gas supply. My hope is in time I should be able to flush out the tank without wasting a lot of gas. Since clearing out the fas line, the Cub is running like a watch. Good luck.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
