Bob: Now, that is a horse of a different color. You don't say whether your running positive or negatived ground so act accordingly on my measure. I'd make the ground strap about 15" and go to cast for your ground. I know the original ground fastened to top of battery box, but those of us who have had these tractors a long time find that ground to cast is a big plus.
The cable to the starter is max 24" on a Super A. Mine is couple inches short of that, and I run the cable in a U at starter with end coming back to the starter.
If your running 6 volt, go with 00 or 01 gauge cable.
